Some ideas about files

I hope nobody minds if I post some suggestions here! If you are already an expert, you'll know which ones suit you and which don't.

Whoever, you have to create the story.

Tips:

  1. use a word processor. MS Word is fine, so are lots of others
  2. if you use an editor like Notepad or Wordpad, make sure you have breaks at the ends of lines. In Notepad go to Edit and select Word Wrap, so the tick is on against it. This makes sure you don't get lines a hundred words long that spill off the right hand edge of the screen.
  3. whichever you use, Save your stuff every so often! We don't want you to lose it.
  4. when you are happy with it, Save it. We want to read it! You have three choices here -
  5. Save it from Word - this will give you a .doc file. Not everyone can read this and some people don't like .doc files because they may contain MSWord viruses. Often it results in a really big file which takes ages to download.
  6. or save it from Word using Save as HTML. This is a personal preference, but I think it is the best. Almost everyone with a browser can read HTML files and the format is automatic. Also, it gives you smaller files.
  7. or save it from some other WP (Lotus WordPro, WordStar etc.) Or from Adobe Acrobat. It's worth saying that there is an Acrobat free reader you can download.
  8. or save it from your editor (Notepad etc) as a .txt file.
  9. remember what you called it when you saved it, including the suffix (.doc, .htm, .html, .pdf, .txt etc) Also remember the folder where you saved it!

Now, read it again - if you enjoy it, so will we, so post it.

If you want to put a story in the 'Files' section of this or any other Yahoo group, first, you have to be a member. That means you can sign on to Yahoo Groups with an id and a password. Yahoo Groups then shows you the group(s) you belong to. When you click on one of them it will give you the 'Home Page' for that group.

On the left you will find a list of functions for the group, like: Messages, Members, Database, etc. One of these is "Files".

Click on that and it will show you the files (stories, maybe pics, folders, etc) that belong to the group. Click on the icons to open the stories etc. Just a word. NEVER,NEVER click on something with .pif, .PIF, .exe, .EXE, .bat or .BAT as the suffix. I'd be careful even if I knew the guy who had created it, and I telephoned him and he said it was OK!

Up at the top and down at the bottom is a line in blue (on my PC at least!) which says Add File | Create Text File | Create Folder .

To add a story, click Add File. It will give you a place to put in the name of the file containing your story. If you need to, click Browse, to look for the file in your folders. Please fill in the description, especially if the story is kind of specialised. Like, two of the Darren stories are a bit rough!

If it's just one story, Add File is fine. If there's several (grrreat!) use Create Folder to upload several files into a folder that we can browse.

A couple of thoughts about circstories

  1. we want this group to survive - I don't think your stories should include minors. That includes "Welcome to xxxxxxxx School for boys".
  2. if it makes your dick twitch, it will make our dicks twitch, too. So don't be shy.

Rick, I hope this is OK by you?
