2009 EPISODE & DOWNLOAD GUIDE

There will be a total of four live action specials between "The Next Doctor" and the beginning of a new series in 2010. These are the first episodes of Doctor Who to be filmed using HD and for practical reasons, these specials continue to use Series 4 production codes.

The first of these, "Planet of the Dead" (produced by Tracie Simpson, a former production manager), was broadcast in April. The second special, "The Waters of Mars", was produced by Nikki Wilson (producer of The Sarah Jane Adventures) and features Lindsay Duncan as Adelaide, described by the BBC as "the Doctor's cleverest and most strong-minded companion yet." It was broadcast on 15 November 2009.

The last two specials, produced by Tracie Simpson, form a single two-part story, which is scheduled to be broadcast over Christmas 2009 and, possibly, New Year 2010. Russell T Davies has confirmed that the companion for the final two specials will be Bernard Cribbins, who will be reprising his recurring role of Wilfred Mott.

A trailer of the 2009 Christmas Special is planned to be shown during the Children in Need 2009 telethon.

Planet of the Dead The episode begins with a young thrill-seeking burglar, Lady Christina de Souza (Ryan), stealing a gold chalice once belonging to King Athelstan from a museum. The Ood Elders share the dreams they have of the Master, Wilfred Mott, Lucy Saxon and two people—revealed later to be Joshua and Abigail Naismith—that he doesn't recognise. The Doctor explains that the Master is dead, but the Ood show him the Master's ring being picked up by a woman after his cremation in "Last of the Time Lords". The Ood also warn that something larger is emerging from the darkness and that the end of time is imminent. The Doctor races to the TARDIS to travel back in time to London on Christmas Eve, where the events that the Ood are dreaming about are starting to occur. Read More! (Caution spoilers!)
